The Sandlot came out 23 years ago today and remains one of the greats kid movies of all time. A great story of a group of neighborhood kids that go to the park everyday to play baseball in the summer of 1962. If you are a 90s kid and you have never seen The Sandlot you flat out suck. Not to be disrespectful or anything but for real if you have never seen The Sandlot what the hell is wrong with you? (p.s I attached the full movie down below)
Never before in the history of cinema had there been such an epic story told. A tale of 9 kids who love baseball more than life itself and a killer giant dog named “The Beast” brings you through a roller coaster of fun and emotion. It became a cult classic for kids in the 90s and to this day remains at the top of kid movies along with Space Jam and Toy Story.
The conflict in the story comes when the main character “Smalls” steals his stepdads baseball autographed by Babe Ruth. The others not knowing stupid ass “Smalls” would use a Babe Ruth ball to actually play baseball with. Smalls just furthering his dickhead ways hits the Babe Ruth ball over the fence into the yard with “The Beast”. He is just lucky that Dennis Leary was just playing the role of his stepdad because if that little shit really would have stolen a Babe Ruth ball from him Dennis Leary would have buried that kid.
Everyone i grew up with wanted to be Benny “The Jet” Rodriguez getting caught in pickles and stealing home straight. I dreamed of having a dream of Babe Ruth coming to talk to me and then lacing up my PF Flyers to have a head-to-head battle with a killer dog across town. The best advice I can give to any young athletes comes from the ghost of Babe Ruth; “Heroes are remembered, but legends never die.”
If you have not seen The Sandlot get your shit together sit down and watch it! I promise you that you will love it….FOREVER!
