During a live BP session on Tuesday, Dodgers P Brett Anderson felt discomfort in his back. An MRI revealed the injury to be a bulging disc. Spring Training is a stressful time on a Pitcher’s body. They are starting to get loose and looking forward to the long grind ahead of them. Now, Anderson has a long way journey to get back into the Dodgers rotation, as he expected to miss three to five months.
Anderson was looking at taking the number three or four spot in the rotation behind Clayton Kershaw and, the newly acquired, Scott Kazmir. Kenta Maeda will become the clear number three, and Alex Wood, who would have been fifth, gets bumped up to the fourth spot. LA has some depth at the back end of the rotation. This could result in Brandon Beachy or Mike Bolsinger finding their way into the final spot in the rotation. This is temporary, however, because the Dodgers are expected to get Hyun-Jin Ryu and Brandon McCarthy back before the All-Star break.
Beachy, in 2 starts with the Dodgers in 2015, was 0-1 with a 7.88 ERA and 5 SO.
In 21 starts with LA last year, Bolsinger went 6-6 with a 3.62 ERA 98 SO.
I’d take Bolsinger if I were Dodgers’ Manager Dave Roberts.
