Why John Wall Could Win the MVP

The heart and soul of Washington Wizards has a strong case to win MVP this year. Last year, we saw something special in John Wall as a player. Wizards fell short by losing to Boston Celtics in the 2nd round last year. This year, John Wall and The Wizards have something to prove and will end up with the top seed in the East. Even though they let LeBron dominate like crazy last game, it’s only one game. Lebron can’t drop 50+ each time. The chances are reasonable for the Wizards to even come out of the east. With John Wall playing phenomenal, I will provide some points as to why he will win his First MVP as soon as this season.

Leadership

The Wizards started off slow last season. With a record of 6-12, there was no hope in D.C. That was until John Wall took the team on his back. Finishing off the season with the best record in the East since December 2, 2016 (43-21), and grabbing the 4th seed. John Wall was a beast and really made everyone better around him. He’s a pass-first player and he easily sets up his teammates which brought success to their season. With the same talent still around this season, it’s not a stretch to say they will get the top seed in the east. In order to win MVP, the importance of performing well in a winning team is necessary.

He Just Entered His Prime

John Wall deserves to be mentioned with the likes of CP3, Curry, Kyrie, and Westbrook. It’s unreal how people don’t bring up his name on being the best floor operators in the league. Like I said, Wall is a pass-first player but last year he started to be more aggressive as a scorer. Averaging about 4.0 more points and he made about a 17% increase in the 16-17 season. Also, going to the line +2.3 and making +1 in field goal attempt. He managed to cut down his bad shots by decreasing his attempts in the 3PT. About a 5% decrease and an 8% decrease in long twos. By not taking those shots, Wall actually switched them and took them to the paint. Which he increased his shots in the paint by 9%.

This an example of how elite players get better year after year. With Wall continuing to perform like this, no one in the NBA will stop him. Honestly, he is the best or second best PG in the league behind Curry. No one can stop him in his one-man fast break and he can shut down any PGs with his defense. He’s unstoppable if anyone can stop him it could be Damien Lillard but that’s kind of a reach.

He still considered a “Dark Horse’ for the MVP. There’s never been more of a spotlight around John Wall in the race. While the east is watered down, it won’t be hard for people to see what’s happening in D.C. We just have to wait and see how the NBA season unfolds. Comment down below and who do you think will take this year’s MVP.
