The champ, Cody “No Love” Garbrandt became the UFC bantamweight champion last Saturday night by becoming the first person to defeat Dominick Cruz inside the octagon. He is a lock for 2016 UFC breakout fighter of the year, and it all started two years ago. Tuesday, January 3, 2015 UFC 182, he made his debut in the UFC knocking out Marcus Brimage in the third-round.

UFC 182 had the big headline of Jon Jones vs. Daniel Cormier, one of the biggest grudge matches in recent history. A very high profile event to make your debut on. Cody made his debut in the prelims which were aired on Fox Sports 1 and made a name for himself immediately. Being a member of team Alpha Male and having Urijah Faber behind him is all people need to hear to know he is legit.

He entered the UFC with a 5-0 pro record, winning all five fights by TKO. He also compiled an amateur boxing record of 11-1. Getting Marcus Brimage in his first fight, who has been a mid-level UFC fighter for a while, was not going to be to much for him. He wore down Brimage throughout the fight with boxing, then ended it in the third-round via TKO. He uses his boxing background to win his fights, and he has not lost yet, bringing his record to 11-0 by winning the belt.

Cody “No Love” Garbrandt is a clear rising star. He has the look, the style, the ability, and the nickname. He has been talking the talk and walking the walk since he entered the UFC, and with the support of the Alpha Male team behind him, he has the confidence to be a superstar.
