Another UFC Fight Night on Fox Sports 1 is live this Sunday. The main event is between two long time heavyweight legends, Andrei “The Pit Bull” Arlovski and Alistair Overeem. They are two of the heaviest hitting fighters in the world and should give UFC fans what they love, a knockout.
The co-main event is another heavyweight bout between two more veterans of the division, Antonio “Big Foot” Silva and Stefan “Skyscraper” Struve. Two of the biggest men fighting in MMA today, their nicknames say it all.
The third fight of the night is actually a very intriguing match-up for real fight fans out there. Albert Tumenov vs. Gunner Nelson will be a highly technical match-up between two high level fighters, each having only 2 losses on their record.
The main event will propel the winner to the head of title contention in the heavyweight division. Although the Cain Velasquez and Travis Browne bout at UFC 200 seems to be for the number one contender spot, a win for either Overeem or Arlovski will put them right there.
I see this as the biggest fight in the UFC career of Alistair Overeem. When he finally signed with the UFC after being a huge name in all the other MMA organizations, everyone thought he would breeze through the division to become champion, but it never happened. He has continued fighting his way through the heavyweight division, and right now coming off of a knockout of Junior Dos Santos, is in prime position to get a title shot. Both of these fighters do not have much fighting left in them, as they are on the tail end of their careers.
I can see Alrovski winning this fight, although, I could not see him becoming champion. On the other hand, I could see Overeem going on to become champion after beating Arlovski. He has been one of the best heavyweight fighters in the world for years now, and if he puts everything together, he could beat anyone.
I am picking Alistair Overem to win this fight Sunday night against Arlovski. I see Overeem knocking Andrei out in the first round due to the “Pit Bulls” ferocious fighting style. I can actually see Alistair playing it safe and fighting smart to avoid Arlovski’s big punches and assure victory. They don’t call him the “Pit Bull” for nothing, Andrei is going to come forward, looking to take your head off at all times, and I see Overeem choosing his spots wisely and landing a huge punch that puts Arlovski to sleep. Should be a real good night of free fights on FX1 and I encourage everyone out there to tune in.
