Best and worst of the past week of futbol

Another week of soccer worldwide including the long awaited Clasico. As a Barcelona fan, I’m still currently in depression. But oh well. Enjoy the best and the worst of this past week

Highs: Real Madrid won this version of the famous “Clasico” against archrivals Barcelona with a comeback 2-1 win (Yes I’m still sad). After losing 4-0 last time around and having a disappointing season, this clasico win is practically a title for Los Blancos. After going down 1-0 in the second half, Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo both scored to turn the score around in the Camp Nou. With the win, Real Madrid have resurrected in the chase for the title.

Lows: Reigning Copa Libertadores Champions River Plate continues their winless streak after losing to Patronato 2-1. They sit in 11th place in Grupo A 9 points behind leaders Rosario Central after just 9 games. River has not won a game since March 1st.

MVP: Cristiano Ronaldo scores the Clasico-winning goal on Saturday to make it 4 goals in the past 5 Clasicos. Though Madrid is still mathematically alive in the league, the situation is difficult. However, Cristiano’s goal gave Madrid 3 crucial points to move to within reasonable distance from Barcelona.

Golazo of the week: Dimitri Payet is taking the world by storm with his sensational free kicks. This weekend he buried one with an incredible dip which Crystal Palace keeper Alex McCarthy had no chance of reaching. Enjoy it once more
