Roster Spot For Dez With Jeremy Hill On IR?

roster spot for dez

Jeremy Hill suffered a season-ending ACL tear in the Patriots’ week one game against Houston. This leaves a roster spot open, possibly for Dez Bryant. Dez wants a prove it contract, and where better could he prove he still has gas in the tank than in New England. With Hill out, a big-name receiver could open the passing offense for Tom Brady and take pressure off the running backs. So the question begs, does New England have a roster spot for Dez?Image result for dez bryant

Dez Wants to Play for New England

I said it, but more importantly, Dez Bryant said it. In a reply to a fan, Bryant said that he could get one-on-ones and prove himself playing alongside Gronk, Edelman, and Chris Hogan. “Washington is cool as well,” but clearly we know where Dez’s heart is.

The “prove it” contract Dez has talked about would be a good contract for New England, especially now that the season has begun. With the season underway, the price tag will likely drop on Bryant, at least a little bit.

Patriots Roster Moves

In addition to placing Jeremy Hill on IR, the Patriots waived receivers Riley McCarron and Chad Hansen. With Edelman serving a four-game suspension, the depth at receiver is now even thinner. It would be easy to believe that the Patriots are looking to add a receiver that can contribute to an offense.

If we put aside one spot for Edelman, that leaves the Patriots with two open spots. The way I see it, there’s a spot for a receiver and a spot for a running back, barring other emergencies.

Is there a Roster Spot for Dez?

The Patriots are thin at receiver, that much is clear. With Jeremy Hill going down for the year and two receivers being waived, one can only imagine that there’s indeed a spot for Dez on the Patriots. Edelman, upon his return, will certainly help the offense. Adding Bryant to that mix would all but eliminate double teams for opposing defenses.

There’s room on the roster, and Tom Brady could use another target. Dez brings plenty of ability, the biggest question is can he learn enough of the playbook to contribute?
