JMan’s 2K Tips: How To Build Your MyTeam 2K19

Build Your MyTeam 2k19

MyTeam has grown on me in the past month and a half. You start to fall in love with opening packs, constantly looking on Twitter for new locker codes, and refreshing the auction tab. Within this article I want to go over a few tips to help make your team better and more efficient.

Defense:

I find that if you hold turbo for too long (LT, RT) you end up chasing your man instead of staying in front of him. This is essential, especially when you face a guy like Steph Curry who’s quick on his feet. One hit with the side to side and you’ll lose your balance nine times out of ten. If you’re a bum and play computer defense, then this doesn’t apply to you.

Also, keep in mind that pick-n-roll defense is the secret weapon. Make sure that as soon as your man hits the screen to switch, bring another defender over to shift down to cut the roll off. I see so many people leave the role man wide-open because they’re to concerned with the shooter. This is where that stick skill comes into play, and you need to be quick on rotating players in your defensive sets.

I find that zones are more impactful at collapsing the issue of the pick-n-roll. You can either live or die by the zone. You can’t be stagnant in these sets either because if you get caught sleeping, then the game can get out of hand quickly. Most teams are three-point oriented, so I highly recommend the 3-2. If you don’t know what that is, here’s an example:

Balance Your Lineup:

When building your line-up; don’t just go for what looks good. Balancing your team says a lot about who you are as a player, especially in those late-game situations. I see teams that stack their squads with three-point shooters, and they die by the three. I also see teams that have no defense, too many inside players, and teams that just went to the auction and made their team look presentable. So, when you get that MT, don’t just buy the best man available, really think about the type of 2K player you are and go from there.

Shooting:

The release points are a lot slower than the ones in MyCareer and Play Now. When creating a shot for yourself you have to be game-like selective when it comes to choosing your shots. Try a dribble-drive, utilize screens, and get in transition as much as possible. On the contrary, don’t fall accustomed to pulling from everywhere. Once you start to see shot after shot falling that 2K rage will set in and most times it will result in sloppy play or an “opponent has left the match.” Don’t be that guy!

Domination:

If you don’t have a great team, play the domination mode. It’s the easiest way to get MT and build towards objectives. The difficulty is on All-Star, and you get three packs a game if you get above 450 MT in a game. Trust the process and put the time in!

Do you ever have a lineup that you just don’t get why you’re not winning? Ever wonder why Steph keeps hitting threes from everywhere, or when LeBron is an automatic bucket as soon he hits the free throw line? It’s not due to the color of the card because Pink Diamond players can be cancerous to your lineup while Gold and Ruby players can be your best. Here are a few things to look into when preparing your lineup.

Shoes:

I used to sell shoe contracts every time I acquired them in packs because I didn’t see the need for them. Then, I wondered why I was losing so often. Added attributes on a player can mean the difference between 35% and 50% field goal percentage. This is especially the case if your team consists of mostly Ruby players or lower; look to take advantage of shoe contracts as much as possible. If you get a Pink Diamond shoe contract, it’s unlimited and can benefit your lineup tremendously. You can also take these contracts and switch them between players. For example; if I had a shoe contract that lasted six games, you could use it on Kareem for three games and switch to LeBron for the last three games.

When you get the shoe contract it will say +3 to defensive rebound or +2 to dunking. You may not think it has an effect on a game, but when you’re not used to a Kyle Lowry who hits leaning shots with ease with a hand in the face, you’ll think twice about shoe contracts. Yes, I’m very salty because this happened to me last night.

Badges:

Pay attention to the badges you get, and also keep an eye on which player could benefit the most from it. For me, I’ll add it to the player that’s either performing the poorest or could use the upgrade. Steph Curry Amethyst shot 11/21 from the three-point line, and I kept complaining the whole game. I did everything I could to prevent him from a bucket, but after the game, I went into the box score and clicked on Curry. He had all his shooting badges on Hall of Fame.

Now, when you first get the card, you don’t have those badges upfront. The guy who I was playing against utilized the badges he got and put them in the right places. I guarantee you if he didn’t have those badges, I would’ve run away with the game. Next time you get badges, use them, don’t sell them.
