Watford Have Impressed When Facing Stiff Competition

Watford maybe be the hottest tam at the start of season, aside from big six.

The Hornets have gotten off to a tremendous start to the new Premier League season. Currently sitting seventh, Javier Gracia has set his men up in a good spot taking 13 of a possible 21 points. An experienced squad that is looking to forget the short-lived Marco Silva era. Watford have taken these their chances even though facing close competition within the first few weeks. The greatest of the lot being a come from behind victory against Tottenham. The opened the first four weeks of the season perfect and other teams began to take notice.

Beating Expectations

This team, in my opinion, was destined for a battle in the relegation zone. They had not made any signing that would bring them a step above teams ahead of them. However, they have been able to handle the departures of Richarlison and Marco Silva. While also bringing in quality, Ben Foster and Gerard Deulofeu on permanent deals. Statistically, so far, they have been at the same pace as Leicester City during their title-winning season.

Can they Challenge at the top?

By no means do I think that Watford will challenge the likes of Liverpool or Manchester City for the title, but they have shown they can handle the big six while also taking care of teams below them. They caused Manchester United problems in a close loss while also giving Arsenal a headache before an own goal led to a narrow defeat. The Hornets have dynamic players they could call on for goals such as Andre Gray, Roberto Pereyra, and Troy Deeney. Jose Holebas is the league leader in assists and has conceded fewer goals than Arsenal and Leicester City. The Hornets may be a far shout to challenge for a European place but they won’t be hovering above the relegation zone as many predicted.
